May 17, 2024, Author Robert Gwaltney discussed his book The Cicada Tree.
Winner of the 2023 Georgia Author of the Year for first novel, Robert Gwaltney, a graduate of Florida State University, lives and works in Atlanta. He is the Vice President of East Seals, North Georgia, Inc. Gwaltney was first inspired to be an author in the third grade. Upon meeting an author who visited his school, he describes that encounter as life-changing. He decided that if his classmate’s mother, Brenda Graham of Cairo, Georgia, could write a novel, a boy like him could do it too.
The Cicada Tree is a Southern Gothic novel set in the summer of 1956. A brood of cicadas descends upon Providence, Georgia, a natural event with supernatural repercussions, unhinging the life of Analeise Newell, an eleven-year-old piano prodigy. Amidst this emergence, dark obsessions are stirred, uncanny gifts provoked, and secrets unearthed.
