Changing The World One Mind At A Time
We need books, particularly World Book Encyclopedias Printed 1980 or later
Although Covid-19 has shut down the schools in Kenya, we are continuing to collect books and donations so that when they reopen September 1 (keep your fingers crossed) we will be ready to ship more books.
Bookshelves
We need 2 more bookshelves in our storage location.
HELP
I feel guilty asking for your help when everyone around you is suffering from the effects of COVID-19. Kenya is literally under siege with the pandemic, a locust plague of biblical proportions (estimated 150 billion locust), floods, and a cholera outbreak. Anything you can do, no matter how small will help.
Remote Location Shipping
Our storage site is located in Bluffton, SC. It may not be practical for you to get books to us. You can mail books from your post office directly to Kenya and we will reimburse you for the cost. Contact Roy Austin at libraries4kids.org or 843-597- 4826 for details.
Kyalilini Primary School
Kalilini is one of the schools Libraries For Kids, Int'l has been helping. We sent them general knowledge books and also money to buy text books that fit their cirricula. In this picture the students are reading their new text books. In many schools, 20 to 30 students have to share one text book. One English, Math, Science, Kiswahili, etc., book for all the students. This slows down the learning process and makes it harder for the rural students to compete with the more well funded big city schools. Libraries For Kids Int'l hope to level the playing field. Click HERE for more amazing stories.
PROGRESS REPORT
So far, LFK has shipped 968 books weighing 1,186 lbs touching the lives of students in 11 schools. This is just the beginning! With more than 30 schools on our waiting list, and some 12,000 rural schools in Kenya alone, we are just getting started.
COVID-19 pandemic has forced schools to remain shutdown and it has been difficult for the teachers in rural settings to help their students continue with learning considering the lack of resources like televisions, radios, electricity, computer or internet connection that supports e-learning. Schools in Kenya are scheduled to reopen September 1. Hopefully, that will happen and when it does we are ready to resume shipping books.
Please help us help these kids to the gift of knowledge by donating to this cause. You can donate on our website or GoFundMe Page.
